Welcome to the rollercoaster ride that is my journey to UX design – a story so unpredictable, it makes Forrest Gump's adventures look like a GPS-guided tour.
Picture this:
A small town in Venezuela, where I started my saga studying Chemical Engineering. But life had other plans, and I decided to pull a dramatic exit when the country went into a political and economic tailspin. And guess what? I traded beakers for books, discovering a hidden love for literature during elective classes, even winning a storytelling contest that got me published in the university magazine. Yep, writing skills unlocked!
Fast forward through a daring escape, and I find myself in Argentina – the land where tango meets unconventional creativity. Here, I dabbled in photography, learned the ropes of Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and Figma. Oh, did I mention I also became a math and science tutor? Because why not throw in some engineering while I'm at it?
Hold on, are you still with me? We're just getting started!
In the chaotic whirlwind of Argentina, I explored psychology, and became a self-proclaimed survivor of deep dives into Freud and Lacan theories. I also learned behavioral science, and even got a certification in therapeutic companion and participated in a hospital internship in the psychiatric ale (fun!).
In the meantime, juggling tutoring, designing educational materials, and managing parent-teacher dynamics, I became a one-person show. Flyers, social media ads, and reports for parents – I was basically a marketing, psychology, and engineering hybrid.
Now, fasten your seatbelt for the 2020 plot twist: the US edition.
Fears of starting over? Check. Language barrier? Duolingo to the rescue. Psychology hiatus? Coding bootcamp enrollment. Working without knowing how to speak English? Why not tutoring Spanish and sprinkle in some creative writing skills teaching some courses?
The climax? A Meta Frontend Certification opened the doors to UX Design, revealing it as the missing piece of my life puzzle. The empathy from psychology, the logical skills from engineering, and the love for aesthetics from photography – all seamlessly stitched together in the fabric of UX.
